The Weekend Wrap-Up

Personal

January 25, 2016

Friends!  I know we’re three (almost four!) weeks into January already but I feel like I haven’t done a proper introduction to the new year. If you’re the kind of person who isn’t into goals, resolutions, making changes or reading about other people who get pumped up about the above mentioned, this post won’t interest you! But if you are, then welcome!

I remember at the start of 2015, being so excited for the New Year and all that it held. So much so that I wrote a long post all about my goals & resolutions. However, this year, I feel as if I’ve blinked and January is almost over! This past year (2015), I worked harder than I have ever worked in my life. Too hard, actually, and I found myself overwhelmed by the very thing I love most. Shortly thereafter, I started making tough choices and giving myself the permission to say no. I set stricter boundaries around my time and began outlining what my definition of success should truly look like.
IMG_0503These past few weeks, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on the year and dreaming about the possibilities for 2016. I think sometimes goal setting can be hard for me because I often feel like they’re in vain, superficial, or just things that make much of myself.  I didn’t like that that was the focus. Everything I could think of seemed like it was just to my benefit, or even if it wasn’t, it didn’t last. It would be something new the following year. I guess that’s good because it would mean that I’m improving, getting somewhere, and accomplishing something, but it just didn’t seem to have that sweet, satisfying taste that meaningful accomplishment should have. I just felt kind of ‘bleh’ about it.

So this year, instead of setting goals and resolutions, I’ve decided to choose a word for the year and live that out! My word for this year is content. It’s a goal to live a life full of joy and content. That feels really powerful when I reread that sentence to myself. That’s sort of the overarching goal for the year which may seem pretty easy to some of you, but below it are other goals, more specific ones that mean a lot to me. I’m going to share them here with you too. Successes and failures in all, each week as I journey to live my life with purpose, with joy, while being content. I encourage you to join if you’re doing your best in 2016 to be more content and joyful too.

So what would you choose? If you had to pick a single word to guide your goals for the New Year, what would it be?
